Fun Monk build
This build doesnt have the heal/second required for 8v8 but it was fun to play in arena. I mostly made it to see how well i could exploit the necro's aura of lich skill so keep that in mind .
Class: Monk / Necromancer
Attributes: (cost)
Divine Favor: 10 (61)
Healing Prayers: 11 (77)
Death Magic: 10 (61)
Total attribute points used: 199/200
Skills:
1) Blessed Signet (availability) - (0,2,10) For each enchantment you are maintaining, you gain 3 energy, maximum 17.
2) Signet of Devotion (availability) - (0,2,5) Heal target ally for 72 health.
3) Orison of Healing (availability) - (5,1,2) Heal target ally for 57 health.
4) Healing Breeze (availability) - (10,1,2) For 10 seconds, target ally gains health regeneration of 8.
5) Heal Other (availability) - (10,34,3) Heal target other ally for 141 health.
6) Watchful Spirit (availability) - (15+,2,10) While you maintain this enchantment, target ally gains health regeneration of 2. That ally is healed for 130 health when Watchful Spirit ends.
7) Mending (availability) - (10+,2,0) While you maintain this enchantment, target ally gains health regeneration of +3.
8) Aura of the Lich (availability) (elite) - (15,3,30) For 48 seconds, your maximum health is halved, but you take half damage and half healing from all sources. When Aura of the Lich ends you're healed for 177 health. This is an elite skill.
basicly i cast mending and watchfull spirt at the begining and then right as we entered battle i would cast aura of lich and if i got attack healing breeze. On a number of occasions i tanked 4 people, it took everything i had to keep me up but it wasn't impossible. In the end this build died to mesmers and disenchantment fairly easily. I did find out that blessed signet was rather nice and allowed me to keep up mending and watchful spirit pretty much only costing me its casting time to make up for the energy loss of those two skills. I think a mesmer healer could use this skill to a better effect and be able to keep up quite a few enchantments. So i might build a fun character around that next BWE.
Edit: ah forgot to explain the affect of aura of lich anyway because it halves life and all damage to you its nuetral to most kinds of damage with one exception DOTS they affect you twice as much. This is why keeping mending watchful spirit and healing breeze on you was so important i would max out at 10 pips or 20 health per second which translated to healing 40 damage per second because of aura of lich. Which is a decent amount especially when im also casting divotion signet and orsion of healing during that period.

What happens when you cast aura of the lich at half life? Does it half only your max health or both your max and current health?

You loose half your max health when you cast AotL. So if you're at 240/480, and cast AotL, you'll then be at 1/240.

Heh, I did do that once and learned from that mistake quickly! Ouch... on several occasions I did manage to cast it in combat though so it’s not impossible just very dangerous.
very good question

wow that sucks lol
Hmm as for the build, i think you could do better with demonic flesh & vital blessings comboed with something like mark of protection or shield of regen or guardian etc. Taking the death line for only 1 spell isnt really worth it imo

I actually dont think demonic flesh or vital blessing are worth it because when they end it can kill you unless they modified that game mechanic. Last time i used those effect when they ended it had the same affect as casting aura of the lich .
using armor of earth and or shield of diflection is probably the best option but you can run into energy problems.
This build happened to be pretty good at energy managment and if somone striped my enchantments both watchfull spirit and aura of litch healed me along with aura of litch ending and giving a 240 point boost in life so....

I personally use them after i've gotten stripped =p
To be sure, you could do better with your elite with a couple of the protection spells - if for no other reason than you can cast them on allies when you're not being focused on.
